There are plenty of obvious choices that come to mind when individuals consider voice over jobs. Plenty people possibly automatically think of animation and other voice over speaking work. When you sit down to write your follow-up messages (a term for the sequence of emails you can load up into Aweber or getresponse) you need to put yourself in your subscriber’s shoes.
Vary the emails - sales emails are fine as liong as you give some freebies and some affiliate offers in there too. Keep it even.
It’s also a good idea to sign up for your own list to get a feel for what it’s like for the reader. I do this and once remember getting an email that was so obviously salesy and pushy it made me angry.
Then I realised it was one of my OWN emails. Needless to say I changed it very quickly.
Always remember though that you’re in internet marketing to make money and this is nothing to be ashamed of. Your customers know this (they’re not stupid) and genuinely won’t mind sales emails if you also offer content and quality too.
This would be a good time to actually create a separate checklist item for each product you are selling. Do it for your own products and those you have the rights to. Months down the road, you will be able see exactly what products you can sell and what email marketing strategies you’ve tried.
Here’s an example:
- Welcome to my list - free access to newsletters
- Free report that’s rebrandable so they can get 75%
- OTO for one of my products
- Freebie - no strings
- Affiliate product recommendation
- Remind them where my blog is
- Sales email - one of my products about blogging (related to last email)
- Affiliate products recommendation

Etc.
You can see that I balance the emails so that they’re varied each time the subscriber opens them. This is so they don’t see my name on the header and think ‘here we go again - what are they trying to sell me THIS time?’
Instead I want them to be interested and open the email (the whole point is to get them opened) with a sense of anticipation.
Ideally once they’ve bought from you, you can add them to a sub-list which targets emails towards the same topic as the one they’ve bought from you.
For example someone who bought a product about viral marketing could go onto your ‘viral marketing’ sublist and you could offer them products (both your own and affiliate) that are concerned with viral marketing.
You must still offer the freebies, but again these could be free resell rights or reports connected with viral marketing.
Promoting the same product in different ways, according to the main topic or purpose of each list, will help you to increase your overall conversion rate. When you use your checklist, each subscriber will receive your promotion in a distinctly targeted way that relates to their personal interests.

Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your career search. Career Fairs are starting to pick up, and Dice is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a San Jose Area Job Fair in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 job fairs scheduled for 2010 across the United States.
How do you compete at a Career Faire? The contention can be sizeable, but you can help yourself stand out from the bunch with advance planning. At AA-Careers, we have a simplified 6-step process to get ready. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:
First, investigate the organizations that are going and pick your targets. Use the web to check out the organizations that are there before you go. Go to their web sites and see if they have their openings listed. Pick a sensible number to go after, and get ready to spend an hour or more researching each one. It’s hard to do more than eight in a day, and three to five is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring organization, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and contacts you know. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You will end up with with a page or two of research for each company/job.
Second, if there are job openings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.
Third, create a ‘thumbnail sales pitch’ for each likely organization/position combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally describing why you are a great prospect for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the team from the company at the job kiosk.
Fourth, modify your resume for each job type. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re targeting. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job requirements. Especially at a Career Fair, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a match based on your resume.
Fifth, rehearse your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each opportunity - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a intelligibly labeled folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.
Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be well groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or fragrance meagerly, if at all.

A modern job hunting campaign is by nature often complicated. While the net has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and possible challenges for job hunters.
Job hunting needs to be thought of as a highly personal, highly aimed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an ad. Your extended network is your source for information and opportunities.
So where does the net fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on a popular job board and got more than 650 responses in a week. For a single position. That’s increased competition for jobs.
Had a strong candidate contacted us before we ran the ad, they could have landed the job before having all that competition. How? By finding someone at our company who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew of the job for at least 13 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?
Be sure to check your cover letter and resume carefully! When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily removed with a fast-paced triage process. How? The same way any HR professional would. By eliminating resumes where the objective didn’t match our job posting. By rejecting prospects whose cover letters gave us reasons not to hire them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating job hunters whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by eliminating prospects who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.
So the good news is that job boards give you a feel of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those jobs are posted, the competition is intense. You can still compete, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.
Another potential problem to be aware of is how quickly you can be looked up on the web. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some MySpace comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing insane, but enough to swing our thoughts about who to employ.
