How to Prepare for Incoming House Guests

house for incoming guests

Most of us love to have guests come and stay in our home. It is a way to bring our family and friends into our world, share our way of life and exercise hospitality. But how do you make sure that your much-loved residence feels like a welcoming home-away-from-home for them? Here are some tips on how to prepare before they arrive.

De clutter that house of yours

De-cluttering, dusting and cleaning are a must unless you want your guests to feel like they are trespassing into your personal space. By de-cluttering you are creating a space that they can enjoy as their own during their stay. Open surfaces and empty dresser drawers show you are making room for them. Dusting and cleaning is just common courtesy when someone is taking the time out to come and visit you. Besides, you certainly don’t want to reveal everything about yourself through your mess, now do you?

Clean air? Air cleaning?

Open windows and let in air, as this will revitalize every room in your home. Not only will it help refresh sleeping, eating and lounging areas through crisp air circulation, it may also help eliminate any unflattering odors that you have gotten used to but somebody new may notice right away. And believe me, you can’t smell yourself as well as others.

Prepare bed and bath

Prepare clean, crisp bedding and bath towels. Make sure your bed is nicely made, pillows fluffed and blankets put out in case it gets cold. Always leave at least two clean towels out for your guest, neatly folded. If you keep your guest bedding and towels stored separately, make sure you have scented drawer liners to keep them fresh.

Your invitation guests and that extra mile

Personal touches can add a lot of warmth to a stay. Don’t go overboard, but a luxurious, unopened soap and maybe a toothbrush in the bathroom will put a smile on most people’s faces. A nice hand cream in their favorite scent by the bedside also shows that you care. Additional touches such as a few magazines, some light snacks and a water bottle will make their sleeping area inviting and cozy. Treat them like kings.

Some people go all the way with their houseguests. They cut a spare key, write a manual for how to navigate the neighborhood and buy everything from bedding to toilet accessories brand new. But the truth is you don’t need to do very much to make someone feel welcome in your home -the most important thing is that you show you care by preparing with your own personal touch before they arrive.
